Ball State senior wide receiver Justin Hall returned the game’s opening kickoff 99 yards for a walk-off Cardinals touchdown.

Following a failed fourth-down conversion, Ball State redshirt senior quarterback Drew Plitt fired a 44-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Jayshon Jackson to put the Cardinals up big early.

The drive went 44 plays on just one play, lasting only eight seconds.

Ball State continued its early domination against the Black Knights, capping off their second offensive drive with a two-yard touchdown run from freshman running back Carson Steele.

The drive went 57 yards on 10 plays, lasting 3:30.

The Black Knights opened the second half with their first scoring drive of the game, as junior quarterback Tyhier Tyler ran a quarterback keeper into the endzone on a four-yard score.

The drive went 75 yards on 12 plays, lasting 6:34.

Army capped off a long offensive drive with a two-yard rush into the endzone from Tyler to shrink Ball State’s lead to one score for the first time since the game’s opening play.

The drive went 80 yards on 14 plays, lasting 8:19.

Both defenses provided a strong showing for the fans in Muncie, preventing either team’s offense from scoring in the third quarter.

Junior quarterback Jemel Jones was intercepted by senior safety Bryce Cosby to set up the Cardinals with great field position at the Army 45-yard line. This set up an 18-yard touchdown pass from Plitt to senior wide receiver Yo’Heinz Tyler to double the Cardinals’ lead.

The drive went 45 yards on three plays, lasting 49 seconds.

The Ball State offense opted to give up a safety in the fourth quarter to the Black Knights at their own 6-yard line rather than risk a potential blocked punt from the Army special teams unit.

Army loses its first game of the season and drops to 4-1. Ball State advances to 2-3.

In a hard-fought game without star quarterback Christian Anderson, the Black Knights struggled offensively, earning only a combined 279 yards on the evening in Muncie. Tyhier Tyler led all rushers for Army with 63 rushing yards on the day.

On defense, senior linebacker Arik Smith led the Black Knights with nine tackles.

Army will take a bye week next week before heading out to Camp Randall to face the struggling Wisconsin Badgers in Madison, Wisconsin, on Saturday, October 16 at 8:00 p.m.
