Anna Maria @ Coast Guard Game Notes

Anna Maria cruised downfield against the Coast Guard defense in just a little under three-and-a-half minutes. The AMCATs scored on their opening drive, as junior wide receiver David Robinson hauled in a 23-yard pass from senior quarterback Alex Cohen.

Junior kicker Finnegan Hall got the Bears on the board on their ensuing drive with a 47-yard field goal.

Hall was lined up to kick another field goal for the Bears, but the kick was blocked by the AMCATs and returned for a touchdown by junior defensive back Lamar Wilkes.

Following a missed field goal from Hall, the Bears ended Anna Maria’s ensuing drive with an interception from sophomore linebacker Noah Greene. This setup a one-yard run for a touchdown by junior running back Jared Colletti.

The AMCATs responded with their first field goal of the game by sophomore kicker Drew Sinclair.

Coast Guard opened the second half strong to tie the game off a 48-yard throw from junior quarterback Tafari Wall to junior running back Jared Colletti.

The Bears offense continued to roll, as Wall found senior wide receiver Damaso Jaime deep downfield on a 70-yard bomb to help Coast Guard earn its first lead of the day.

In just one play, senior quarterback Matthew Sapere entered the game behind center and launched a 63-yard touchdown downfield to sophomore wide receiver Deandre Wallace. The extra point was blocked by the Bears to maintain a one-point lead.

To open the fourth quarter defensively, freshman linebacker Ethan Lasher intercepted Sapere to give Coast Guard the ball in great field position.

Immediately, on the next play, Wall was intercepted by Anna Maria sophomore defensive back Kasir Henry.

The Bears defense continued to impress, as senior defensive back William Price picked off a crucial interception to keep the AMCATs off the scoreboard in the game’s final minutes. It was Coast Guard’s third interception on the afternoon.

With less than half a minute to go, Anna Maria senior quarterback Alex Cohen threw a bullseye pass into the endzone to Wallace to take the lead. On the two-point conversion, Cohen’s pass was intercepted by Lasher.

On a dime, Jaime and Wall connected on a long pass-and-catch to get Coast Guard down to the Anna Maria 41-yard-line, but the Bears were unable to find the endzone within the game’s final seconds.
